Tim's Journey
Timothy Byrne is a self-taught American photographer. He was born in 1978, grew up in Caldwell, New Jersey, and spent his summers visiting Long Beach Island at the Jersey Shore, where his love and passion for the ocean were born. As life commonly does, Timothy moved away from his passion for many years. In his 20s, he decided to relocate to South Florida, where his journey and passion reignited. While in South Florida, Timothy began reconnecting with his love for the ocean after finding like-minded friends who introduced him to the joy of scuba diving.
While traveling the world scuba diving, he experienced an awakening to the beauty of waves while on an island in the South Pacific. Standing on a dive boat, underwater camera in hand, instead of listening to the dive briefing, he found himself mesmerized by the beautiful crystal clear blue waves breaking on the sandy beach next to where the boat was anchored. At that moment, the joy and excitement of life filled his heart. Since then, Timothy has been on a journey, dedicating himself to capturing the magic, beauty, and power of ocean waves. As he has found the gift in all aspects of life, he has also captured the many secrets of the ocean. Aside from photography Tim co-owns a succesful business and enjoys family life with his wife and two kids. Watching his children develop their own relationship with the ocean brings him great joy.
In the ocean, Tim shoots with a Nikon D500 DSLR camera in combination with a Tokina 11-20mm wide-angle lens. This setup is well protected from the pounding surf by a waterproof carbon fiber housing customed designed by CMT Water Housings. Tim sets out 2-3 times a year on his expeditions and travels to various locations to shoot mostly in Hawaii and California. He also shoots at home in South Florida usually during the winter months when good surf is available.
